Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 13, 2026

That's the Guy ("we", "us") makes an iPhone app that helps you prepare for and work a conference. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and what control you have over it. We have tried to keep it plain.

1. What we collect

  • Account information. You sign in with Apple. We receive a stable account identifier from Apple, and your email address and name only if you choose to share them during sign-in.
  • Content you enter. The people you add and the details you save about them, such as photos, names, companies, titles, email addresses, why you want to meet them, notes, whether you have met them, and follow-up details. This includes information you fill in by scanning a name badge or business card with your camera.
  • Gmail (planned, not yet available). If you later choose to connect Gmail, we will receive the authorization needed to send email on your behalf. See the Gmail and Google sections below.

The app does not include third-party analytics or tracking software, and we do not use advertising identifiers.

Contact details about other people are information you choose to enter. Please only add information you have a legitimate reason to keep.

2. How we use it

  • To sign you in and keep your list, notes, and photos available on your devices.
  • To sync your data when you come back online after working offline.
  • To provide features you ask for, such as filling in details from a scanned badge or card.
  • To keep the service secure, fix problems, and prevent abuse.
  • To respond when you contact us for support.

We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.

3. Where it is stored

Your data is stored in a Postgres database hosted by Neon on Amazon Web Services in the US East (N. Virginia, us-east-1) region, and is served through hosting provided by Vercel. That means your information is processed in the United States. Your photos and notes are visible only to the account that created them. Part of your data is also kept on your device so the app works offline.

4. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as follows:

  • Service providers that run the service for us: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), and Apple (Sign in with Apple). They handle data only to provide those services.
  • Google, only if you connect Gmail. When you approve a follow-up email, it is sent through your Gmail account.
  • Legal reasons. If we are required to by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of our users or the service.

5. Retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account and all of your data from inside the app under Settings, then Delete account. Deletion removes your account and the content associated with it from our systems. Backups kept by our providers may take a short additional time to be overwritten.

You can also email support@therestheguy.com to ask us to delete or export your data.

6. Security

Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS, and our providers encrypt stored data. Access to your content is limited to your account. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and will act promptly if we learn of a problem.

7. Children

That's the Guy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Your rights and contact

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You can edit or delete most of your data in the app. For anything else, or to make a request, email support@therestheguy.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify that the request comes from you.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes, for example when Gmail follow-ups launch. We will change the "Last updated" date above, and if a change is significant we will tell you in the app or by email.

10. Google API Services and Limited Use

Gmail connection is planned and is not yet available. If you connect your Gmail account, the app will request only one permission: to send email on your behalf (the gmail.send scope). It does not read, list, or store the contents of your mailbox. Emails are sent only after you have reviewed and approved them.

That's the Guy's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

You can disconnect Gmail at any time in the app, or revoke access from your Google Account's security settings.
